Exploring the Intersection of Architecture, Time, and Light

I am thrilled to announce my feature in the February 2026 edition of MF Magazine. This extensive interview provided a fantastic opportunity to reflect on my journey from the early days of 3D CGI to my ongoing evolution as a photographer, filmmaker, and mentor.

In the feature, we trace my path back to the 1990s. While many assume I am a trained architect, my background is actually in microelectronics and CG art. For nearly two decades, I operated a "virtual camera" in a 3D world to create photo-realistic computer renderings. My photography journey initially started as a work necessity, using a Minolta X-700 to document completed interior design projects. However, it was the economic crash of 2008 that pushed me to pivot fully, teaching myself the craft from the ground up starting with a Canon PowerShot G9.

The article dives into several core themes of my workflow and philosophy, including:

  • The Synergy of Design: How architectural design and photographic design are fundamentally built on the same way of seeing, relying on light, proportion, and composition to shape a human experience.

  • The Physical Reality of the Craft: The undeniable toll of carrying up to 80 kilos of gear up unfinished skyscrapers in the Arabian heat to capture the perfect perspective.

  • Pushing Visual Boundaries: My obsession with creating Ridiculously Insane Panoramas (RIPs) and capturing the hidden essence of a subject through motion-controlled time-lapse.

Alongside these creative milestones, the feature explores a critical part of my evolution in the modern era: community and education. Having recently crossed the fifteen-year mark of shooting full-time, I’ve realized that growth is no longer just about the solitary pursuit of an image. Stepping into roles outside of purely shooting—teaching workshops, leading seminars, and judging competitions—has fundamentally made me a better artist. When you are forced to deconstruct your post-production choices and articulate your instincts to students, it demands a level of self-scrutiny that sharpens your own eye.

From discussing the technical leap between vintage SGI workstations and the unmatched quality of modern medium format lenses , to my ultimate dream of photographing the Pyramids of Egypt from completely unexpected perspectives, this interview covers a lot of ground.
