The Approach and Execution

The client commissioned me to photograph the school and the adjacent nursery from a variety of vantage points inclusive of aerial views, and at different times of the day. The guidelines I received from the client were relaxed with plenty of space for my own creative expression. What I gathered from the initial briefing, was that the client was interested in exploring the project from a less architecturally formal perspective. They were hoping I’d capture their project in a more documentary style, with the inclusion of the school’s students and toddlers, whenever possible.

I decided to photography the project from a variety of near and far vantage points, to reveal the setting of the school and nursery within their surroundings. I was seeking to find the project’s unique character and more importantly, how it all fits within the context of its location. For the remainder of the series, I chose to focus on the architectural massing and and finally, I explored the details which give this project its unique signature. Among those, the most important one was the effect of the natural light on the interior and exterior spaces. Among those, the biggest emphasis was dedicated to the shading tents at the school’s courtyard. Last but not least, I carefully timed the snippets of the students at play and their casual interactions within the designed space.
